Doug Casson Bio

My name is Doug Casson and I've been employed by Agrium Fertilizers for the last 37 years. I am an Instrument Mechanic at the Redwater site located 16 miles north of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.

As a teenager, I grew up in Kamloops, British Columbia. Living around the hills of BC, motorcycles and all terrain vehicles have always been a large attraction in the area. I purchased my first dirt bike at the age of 13. I began cross country motorcycle racing when I was 15 and carried on, in dirt tracks, until I was almost 17 years old.

At the age of 16, I bought my first car and got involved in hotrods and drag racing. I still love the hotrods but found myself back into the motorcycles again by the age of 19. This time though, I purchased my first hi-way motorcycle, a 1973 Harley Davidson Sportster. Two years later, I bought a full sized big twin Harley Davidson.

In 1982 I founded the Fort Saskatchewan Motorcycle Association as well as an annual motorcycle rally to compliment the association. When we lost a close friend to cancer in the fall of 1990, I reorganized the annual rally as a cancer benefit where all the funds generated from this event were donated to the Canadian Cancer Society as well as to hold tribute to a brother lost. This event, known as the "Cancer Ride" continues today, nearly a quarter century after that first motorcycle rally. In 1998 I opened my own part time motorcycle shop and continue to serve the Fort Saskatchewan area in terms of motorcycle parts, accessories and service.

In 2000, I began building my nitro methane powered Harley Davidson dragster and completed the project in 2002. I've since been racing the western Canadian circuit (CMDRA)

Crew

Support Crew

Goals

This season, we will continue to race the Western Canadian drag racing circuit as well as the USA season finals in Las Vegas, Nevada. We have assembled a very experienced crew and expect to do well in the Pro-Dragster class. We have also added an on board computer to this motorcycle that we expect will give us the edge we need to bring home the number one plate.

The season includes race facilities in Alberta at Edmonton and Medicine Hat as well as in British Columbia at Mission, Ashcroft and Fort St John.

The two USA race tracks that we try to attend are Seattle and Las Vegas. Although the two USA tracks are not part of our Canadian points system, we do make an effort to show and gain more experience.

Why Sponsoring Helps You

Motorcycles are becoming more and more mainstream everyday. Even cable TV programming has reflected this with programs such as American Choppers on Discovery, Bikeography on Fine Living, Corbin's Ride On and American Thunder on Speed.

More close to home though is Tom Mann of Biker TV, a Canadian production out of eastern Canada, committed to filming the CMDRA (Canadian Motorcycle Drag Racing Association) race events in the 2010 season for the racing associations in both Eastern Canada as well as some parts of the USA. I look forward to more local TV coverage in 2010 as I know it will continue to be a large boost to the sport of motorcycle drag racing in Western Canada.

Television has played an extremely important part in the growth of motorcycle racing already and is likely the reason that it has become the sport of the decade. Television allows audiences at home to enjoy the beauty, the speed, the technology and the pure excitement of nitro motorcycle drag racing. Bad Habitz Racing is a professional motorcycle racing team entering our 6th season in the sport of Nitro Motorcycle Drag Racing.

Sponsor names or logos are prominently displayed on the motorcycle, rider, pit crew uniform and transport vehicle. For you as a sponsor, this translates into a huge amount of exposure for you and your business.

Wherever the Bad Habitz team is seen, media coverage, television, print, internet, on location, driving across the country, promotional events, posters and banners, you will receive outstanding exposure and value for the investment. The sponsor is valued, active and a highly visible part of our race team.

As a sponsor, you would become part of the media coverage, event activity and entire racing community. Rather than just being a financial backer, you become a valued part of our race team. This is the great marketing appeal of racing versus other forms of event marketing and sponsorship opportunities. We do hope you choose to become part of the exciting sport of motorcycle drag racing.

Why We Need Sponsors

Racing can get expensive. There are many items that need to be taken care of just to get out to a race. The cost of the initial build is always significant but it is maintenance and travel costs of racing that generally have racers seeking out potential sponsors.

A four man crew in just lodging and food will run us approximately $800 for one weekend of racing. Diesel fuel and tow rig maintenance runs another $700. Race fees and crew gate fees usually amount to another $250. So a racer will spend $1,750 just to get to the track and he hasn't even made a pass down the drag strip yet.

We all love the sport of drag racing but take all this and multiply it by 6 races and you can understand why sponsorship is so very important in motor sports today.

Why Sponsor Us

By sponsoring us (or any other race team), there are several benefits to the team sponsor which include:

A presence in the Canadian motorcycle racing business.

Advertising before, during and after each race.

The crew can schedule special appearances at your place of business for promotional purposes.

Other shows or promotional events include all our sponsor's names on signage.

Support for your business from our team.

You become part of the team, when you sponsor us you sponsor the team.

And lastly, when we win a race, YOU win a race!

Please note

Please note that paint schemes, team shirts, or any company name/logo's graphics that haven't been directly supplied by the interested sponsor may be charged for the additional cost of the purchase and/or design of these items.

Please also understand if we are doing maintenance work on our motorcycle during the time of your promotional event, our motorcycle may not be available to show.

We do however consider this in our scheduling as we understand your business is just as important as ours. So many times though, we are doing maintenance on our motorcycle just before a race event.

Racing components are sometimes difficult to find on short notice and this has put us on tight schedules more than once.
Thank you once again for taking the time to consider sponsorship of Bad Habitz. If you are interested in becoming a team sponsor, please email me at fortvtwin@shaw.ca. You can also reach Doug by phone at 780-916-2310
